A Hundred Things

Downtown Gangneung

This shop in the Gangneung market area calls itself a department store, but Harrods it isn't. The Korean word for department store is literally 'store of a hundred products', so this store probably fits the description. According to the lettering on the window, this place carries pet supplies, books, car accessories, clothes, electronics, electrical supplies, and (jewellery) accessories. It has everything but a proper bike rack.

Floating Lights

Wolhwa Park, Gangneung

This is the second big transformation of this piece of land. It was originally where the railway line heading south out of Gangneung ran, and it was raised on earth and bridges about three metres above the surrounding streets. The track was removed when the new bullet train line was built for the Olympics in another location. The city took the long strip of land running through the middle of the city and built a park and indoor market on it. The market didn't do so well, so last year they tore down the buildings (which were just pre-fab) and put down these strips of vegetation and lights. I suspect and hope that those gardens are just temporary and the city will put in something looks more permanent and attractive.

Look at all my new friends

Photo Booth Shop, Wolhwa Park

Photo booths have reappeared in tourist areas and you get four frames for four thousand Won. There are even selfie-shops with photo booths, costumes, and props. Great fun when you're with friends. I took a picture of myself in the a window display of selfies. Selfie-bomb? Meta-selfie?

Trays

Steamed Bun Shop, Central Market

I have a similar photo in my portfolio of a baking tray in a shop window. I'm not sure what the attraction to empty trays is, but they look very neat and tidy to me. Maybe it's the thought that they will soon be piled with delicious things.

God Dog

Downtown Gangneung

Don't bother calling that number to get your hands on a sacred snack. The restaurant went out of business some time ago. Satan strikes again.

Can't we all just get along? Yes!

Geumsan Village, Gangneung.

These chickens are usually in a small field with a number of goats. I guess the farmer let them out to eat up stray rice grains in the winter field.
Its head is down, but there is a turkey in the group. I wonder if the chickens recognise the difference between themselves and the turkey. For that matter, do they see the goats they live with as anything other than slightly odd-looking siblings?
